Staffer Jonathan:

Picks two incredible videos he found on a website called Kitsune Noir:  ”Vanishing Point” and “Cracker Bag”

“They’re both SUPER interesting, and very different.  I’m connecting with them in a Medea With Child place right now.”  As well as being our Artistic Director, Jonathan is directing Sideshow’s upcoming production.  As part of his research, he’s been discovering inspirations far beyond the original Medea myth.

Check out Glendyn Ivin’s short film “Cracker Bag.”

“It’s set in the 80s, but it feels so urgent and contemporary to me.  Working on Medea With Child has gotten me thinking a lot about childhood, about the things we find so crucially important then and the ways we convince ourselves they’re not as important when we grow up.  The little girl’s excitement and heartbreak in this video are quite powerful to me.”

Check out Japanese “visual performance unit” Bonsajo’s short visual experience”Vanishing Point.”

“It’s just pure, delicious fun.  It’s so smooth and stylish, the ideas in it are fully thought out and executed seamlessly and humbly.  We started staging Medea With Child this week, and I’m trying to figure out how to deal with all the many, many moving parts in this show.  Lots of rolling set pieces and big scene changes, a zillion props, instrumental and vocal music, choreography, acrobatics, violence, and lots of liquid and sharp metal things onstage.  It’s big and clunky right now as we figure it all out, but I’ve been using this video as a small reminder to myself that huge things, when polished, can seem effortless and flawless and dazzling.”

Staffer Jonathan’s Piques are “Cracker Bag” and “Vanishing Point”.

Might have something to do with his skills BEHIND the camera.

Jonathan is no stranger to film.  He’s a remarkable photographer. You can check out his photos, and him on camera in Sideshow’s Chase grant proposal video here!

Thanks for sharing, Jonathan!

Much love,

Monahan
