Hello sweet, sassy readers,
Theories of the Sun officially opens Thursday, September 9th! Holy cow!!! What better way to celebrate opening then a contest, right?
This one I feel is especially inspired by Theories of the Sun. As you can probably tell from our show description, Theories has two very famous characters in it – Tom Stoppard and Tennessee Williams. This got me thinking about what type of famous person mash up I would like to see in a play. So I asked our Theories production team, cast and Sideshow staffers what two famous characters they would like to see on stage together. Here are some responses:
I think we’re all holding out for the Jesus/Stalin buddy comedy. – Katie Spelman, Theories Choreographer. Preferably as a buddy cop comedy?
Lady Gaga and Plato. They could discuss the problem of art and imitation. And Gaga could go gaga and banish that bastard from her fabulous republic. – Gina Di Salvo, Theories Dramaturg. I wonder how Gaga would do with the whole cave thing…
I think it’d be rad to see Jesus Christ and Muhammad in the same play. – Matt Fletcher, Producing Artistic Director. I like seeing the word rad in the same sentence as Muhammad.
Klaus Nomi and Perez Hilton. Boom. – Jonathan Green, Artistic Director. BOOM indeed.
Me personally, I’ve been pondering this one for days. Elizabeth Bishop and Shel Silverstein. The prose would consist of villanelles and spoonerisms, and I’ll giggle the entire time.
Now here’s where you come in!!!!! Post a comment answering the same question – what two famous people would you like to see in a play together? The response that tickles my fancy the most wins TWO FREE TICKETS to Theories of the Sun! So put on your creative brain hats and get cracking! If nobody comments, I’ll probably shoot myself in the foot as punishment for my failed contest attempt, so please, take pity on me.
Please comment by 3pm Wednesday, September 8th!!!! Winner will be announced via the Blog at 5pm Wednesday!
Doesn’t this show look pretty?
xoxo,
Ms. Megan
bob dylan and tom waits! because, you know, that would just be wicked sweet.
Sir Richard F. Burton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Francis_Burton)
and Gore Vidal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYymnxoQnf8).
I think it should be an epic western. Maybe Andrew Jackson is the villain.
Fyodor Dostoevsky and Oscar Wilde. The dense and dark explorations of Dostoevsky would be an interesting counterpart to Wilde’s light wit and sparkling conversation, and they would have one of the most interesting conversations about religion ever.
Jesse James (the original racist) and Thomas Alva Edison: Play opens in 1874 with Edison staging JJ’s death so as to preserve the controversial criminal for a later time and project once the technology is ready. Enter Edwin Porter several years later, being groomed by Edison for a new kind of art. Porter shadows an elderly James as he shapes The Great Train Robbery. Filmmaking is born under specious circumstances…
