"No one's been out this far."

First, they called it X. Then, the called it Pluto. Now, they're not calling at all.

Billions of miles from home, a lone research base waits to receive another message from Earth. It’s been three weeks. It’s never been this long. The crew attempts to maintain normal operations, but as the silence grows louder, the darkness outside the station starts to creep in.

Approximate run time: 2 hours, with one intermission

X contains mature content and is not recommended for young theatre-goers.

★★★1/2!

"Sideshow’s production has left me haunted by the images and ideas that arise on the former Planet X. Price is fascinating to watch... Wallace performs with beautifully honest ease... Green shows incredible skill."

Jerald Pierce, Chicago Tribune

Highly recommended!

"So enjoyable... a stylish stew pot of anxiety and silence, served by a great cast... a sense of narrative experimentation that’s as dread-inducing and disorienting as it is philosophical."

Jay Van Ort, New City

"X is ideally matched to Sideshow Theatre Company and director Jonathan L. Green, who give it just the right glossy sterility for a story that goes right to the question of how our minds process input. There’s not a weak second (or hour? or decade?) among the cast."

Kris Vire, Storefront Rebellion

Highly recommended!

"How often do stories that seek to unsettle and terrify also reach for your heart strings? X’s crackerjack ensemble sticks the landing with aplomb."

Spence Warren, Picture this Post

"Unswerving conviction of an ensemble firmly grounded in their immediate environment... provides an anchor for audiences succumbing to vertigo induced by the array of metaphors evidenced in McDowall's universe."

Mary Shen Barnidge, Windy City Times

"A wonderfully complex space thriller... Bring someone along to share thoughts with over a drink; you won’t run out of conversation."

Karen Topham, Chicago on Stage

★★★

"Sideshow Theatre’s X is a compelling play with excellent performances... your attention will be rewarded."

Nancy Bishop, Third Coast Review

"Eerie, astounding, jaw-dropping... the real stars of this presentation are [the] technical team."

Colin Douglas, Chicago Theatre Review
